Seven Tampa Yankees Named 2017 FSL All Stars

Mateo, Polo, Littell, McNamara and Mesa to Play; Rogers, Carroll Named but Promoted

Tampa, Fla. - The Florida State League announced the Mid-Season All-Star selections on Thursday, including a total of seven Tampa Yankees. The 56th FSL All-Star Game will be played at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium, the home of the Lakeland Flying Tigers, on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Purchase Tickets.

INF/OF Jorge Mateo, OF Tito Polo and RHPs Zack Littell, Dillon McNamara and Jose Mesa will represent the T-Yanks. LHP Josh Rogers and RHP Cody Carroll were originally named All-Stars, but were replaced by Littell and Mesa after earning promotions to Double-A Trenton.

INF/OF Jorge Mateo returns for his second consecutive FSL All-Star Game after representing the T-Yanks in 2016. The 21-year-old entered Thursday batting .250 (50-for-200) with 13 doubles, six triples, 3HR, 8RBI and 18SB. Mateo is tied for first in the league in triples and tied for second in stolen bases. The Yankees signed the Dominican Republic native as a non-drafted free agent in 2010.

OF Tito Polo will make his second-straight All-Star team after being named a Mid-Season All-Star while with Single-A West Virginia in the South Atlantic League last season. The 22-year-old entered Thursday batting .255 (39-for-153) with five doubles, three triples, 2HR, 9RBI and 12SB. The Yankees acquired Polo in 2016 as part of the trade that sent RHP Ivan Nova to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

LHP Josh Rogers earned "FSL Pitcher of the Week" honors after making a quality start (7.0IP, 3H, 1R/0ER, 1BB, 8K) in a win vs. the Daytona Tortugas on April 29th. The 22-year-old made eight starts for the T-Yanks, recording a 4-3 record with a 2.22 ERA (52.2IP, 45H, 16R/13ER, 8BB, 51K) before earning a promotion on May 26th. The Yankees drafted Rogers in the 11th round out of the University of Louisville in 2015.

RHP Zack Littell replaces Rogers on the North Division team. The 23-year-old is 6-1 with a 2.03 ERA (53.1IP, 53H. 15R/12ER, 11BB, 41K) in 10 games (eight starts). As of Thursday, Littell is tied for the most wins in the FSL and ranks fourth in ERA. The Yankees acquired Littell from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for LHP James Pazos in 2016.

RHP Cody Carroll moved up to Trenton on May 27th after going 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA (20.0IP, 10H, 7R/5ER, 8BB, 30K) in 13 relief appearances for Tampa. On May 1st, the 24-year-old logged two perfect relief innings in Dunedin, striking out all six Blue Jays he faced. The Yankees drafted Carroll in the 22nd round out of the University of Southern Mississippi in 2015.

RHP Jose Mesa takes Carroll's spot on the North Division squad. The 23-year-old is 1-0 with one save and a 1.47 ERA (18.1IP, 6H, 3ER, 4BB, 26K) in nine relief efforts and is tied for second in the league with four holds. Mesa enters Thursday with a streak of 16 consecutive scoreless innings, including 3.0IP with Trenton on May 21st. The Yankees drafted Mesa out of Charles W. Flanagan High School (Pembroke Pines, FL) in the 24th round in 2012.

RHP Dillon McNamara is 1-0 with seven saves and a 1.23 ERA (22.0IP, 12H, 3ER, 4BB, 16K) in 15 relief appearances. Among all relievers in the FSL, the 25-year-old is tied for second in saves, fifth in opponent batting average (.160), fourth in BB/9.0IP ratio (1.64) and second in base runners allowed per 9.0IP (6.95). The Yankees selected McNamara in the 27th round out of Adelphi University in 2013.
