SEVIERVILLE, TN - The Tennessee Smokies (3-1) 4-3 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (1-3) Saturday night at Smokies Stadium clinched a series victory. After Tyler Payne drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth, LHP Wyatt Short (SV, 1) closed out the game with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Two Smokies errors led to a pair of Biscuits runs in the top of the fifth. Rene Pinto scored on a sacrifice fly, and Seaver Whalen scored on Miles Mastrobuoni’s double to give Montgomery a 2-0 lead. The Smokies sent nine to the plate and scored three times in the bottom half. Payne scored the Smokies first run on a throwing error. Back-to-back RBI singles from Andy Weber and Christopher Morel put the Smokies up 3-2.

Jake Palomaki walked leading off the seventh, and scored the tying run on Whalen’s RBI double. Miguel Amaya walked with one out in the eighth, moved to second on a groundout, and scored the winning run on Payne’s two out single.

LHP Bryan Hudson (W, 1-0) earned the win in relief. He allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts in two innings. Short worked around a one out walk in ninth for his 39th career MiLB save. Payne finished 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and a run scored.
