MOBILE, AL  -  Tennessee dropped the third game of its road series with the Mobile BayBears by a score of 14-4 on Saturday night. An explosive first inning from the BayBears propelled them to victory.
Things seemed to be trending the Smokies way to start the game, as a single for Zack Short brought in Charcer Burks to give Tennessee an early 1-0 lead. However, things spiraled in the bottom of the first inning. An RBI single from Roberto Baldoquin quickly evened things up for Mobile, but they didn't stop there.
Shortly after, Jared Walsh ripped a double to ring in two more runs for the BayBears, and a three-run home run to left center from Zach Houchins put Mobile up 6-1.
The Smokies responded to the big inning after Will Remillard scored on a balk in the second inning to close the gap to just four runs. However, Keegan Thompson finished up his time on the mound after three innings, as he gave up eight earned runs and another solo home run shot from Houchins in the third inning.
Tennessee yet again answered with a run of their own, courtesy of Jason Vosler in the fourth inning, who drove in Charcer Burks off a single to right field to cut the score to 8-3. Mobile showed off its power once again as Jose Rojas blasted a three-run homer to center that gave the BayBears an 11-3 lead after four innings.
Rojas took another ball deep in the sixth inning, as his second home run of the game put Mobile up 13-3. The Smokies showed off some power of their own, as a homer to deep center from Zack Short narrowed the gap in the seventh inning. Mobile capped off its offensive firepower in the eighth inning with a run scored on a wild pitch from Jake Stinnett to give them a 14-4 lead.
The BayBears had just three more hits than Tennessee on the night but tallied nine runs off home runs alone. Preston Morrison and Stinnett finished out the game for the Smokies with a combined six earned runs in five innings.
Tennessee and the BayBears will play again on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. ET. Mobile is projected to start Jesus Castillo on the mound, while the Smokies starter has yet to be named.
