Chattanooga, TN - *The Tennessee Smokies (9-12) evened the six game set with the Chattanooga Lookouts (13-9) with a 5-4 broad victory. Eight Smokies batters recorded hits while starting pitcher, Cam Sanders allowed just two earned runs in five innings.

Tennessee opened the scoring in the second inning, loading the bases thanks to an Andy Weber double, Christopher Morel single and D.J. Wilson walk. Zach Davis’ two-out walk would bring Weber home from third and give the Smokies a 1-0 lead.

The Smokies extended their lead in the fourth inning thanks to contributions from familiar faces. Wilson drove Morel in with a triple and after a Wilson walk, Miguel Amaya would single to left field, giving the Smokies a 3-0 lead.

Sanders ran into his first bit of trouble in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Yoel Yanqui and Wilson Garcia led off the frame with singles before a two-out Robbie Tenerowicz double cut the Smokies’ lead to 3-2. Chattanooga would tie the game in the fifth inning, capitalizing on a Smokies error to bring home an unearned run.

Sanders would exit after the fifth inning as the LSU alum turned in another quality start. The 24-year old right hander now has a 3.86 ERA this season. Smokies reliever, Ethan Roberts, allowed no runs and just one baserunner in two innings while Ryan Lawlor surrendered a run in the eighth inning.

Tennessee would answer in the seventh inning, scoring first on a Wilson bunt thanks to Chattanooga throwing error and on a Connor Myers two-out double.

Tennessee took a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning and Cayne Ueckert secured the win, earning the save while retiring the Lookouts in order with two strikeouts.

The series continues against the Lookouts Saturday night. First pitch from AT&T Field is set for 7:15 p.m. ET. Fans can hear all Smokies games by going to https://www.milb.com/tennessee/fans/audio-listen-live.
