CLEARWATER, Fla. - Darick Hall hit a walk-off homerun to lift the Threshers to their first series win of the season on Tuesday night against the Fort Myers Miracle at Spectrum Field.
Fort Myers (8-11) opened the scoring in the first inning. A lengthy 11-pitch battle went in favor of lead-off man Mark Contreras as he worked a walk to open the inning, and Joe Cronin sent a fly ball deep into center field for an RBI double. Contreras had an RBI double of his own in the second that sent Jared Foster across the plate giving the Miracle the early 2-0 lead.
Clearwater (6-13) answered in the second inning, courtesy of a Henri Lartigue solo home run that cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Threshers knotted it up in the fourth inning. Hall doubled on a line drive down the right field line, and a single from Mickey Moniak moved him over to third. Miracle catcher Caleb Hamilton tried to pick off Hall at third, but the throw missed and allowed Hall to score, tying things up 2-2.
The game would stay tied until the bottom of the ninth, when Hall knocked a first-pitch changeup over the wall in the right field corner for a Threshers walk-off win.
Hall's seventh home run of the season gives him the edge on the league lead, and Lartigue and Hall's homers extend the Threshers FSL-best home run total to 21.
Starting pitcher Connor Seabold (0-1) gave up two runs on four hits, while striking out three and permitting three walks in four innings.
Felix Paulino came on to start the fifth, pitching two scoreless innings on one hit, striking out three and permitting just one walk. Blake Quinn tossed two hitless innings, setting down all six batters he faced. Quinn has only allowed one run in 12 innings this season.
Aaron Brown (1-0) earned the win, striking out all three batters he faced in his one inning of relief. Threshers pitching combined for 12 strikeouts in the win.
The Threshers and Miracle return to Spectrum Field Wednesday afternoon for a 12 p.m. game. Tyler Wells (2-0) takes the hill for Fort Myers, against Adonis Medina (1-2) for the Threshers. Kirsten Karbach will be on the call starting at 11:45 a.m.
