CLEARWATER, Fla. - With the rain pouring down at Spectrum Field on Sunday afternoon, the Threshers were likely faced with their final at-bat in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Bradenton held a 4-2 lead, despite a line drive homer to left from Jose Gomez that opened the inning. Marauders starter Mike Wallace (1-1) induced the next two outs without issue, and the game was one out away from becoming official.
Adam Haseley gave Clearwater some hope, knocking a hard grounder through the right side. Darick Hall was then hit by a pitch, putting the tying run on base.
With a 1-1 count, Cabral drove a high fly ball the opposite way that smacked off the concrete wall beyond the yellow line, a three-run home run that put the Threshers on top, 5-4.
After Jose Pujols doubled, the rain intensified and forced play to halt just after 2:30 p.m. Following a 46 minute delay, the contest was called and the Threshers had earned their first victory in over a week.
Sunday saw the season debut of top pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez, who lit up the radar gun in his first outing. Sanchez was charged with four runs on seven hits and four walks across four innings, but hit as high as 101 mph and flashed triple digits five times on the afternoon.
Sanchez struck out six, and was lifted after 83 pitches, 46 of which were strikes. He gave way to Mauricio Llovera (1-0) in the fifth, who twirled a quick scoreless inning to give the Threshers their final chance before the rain picked up.
The Threshers (2-9) put up 11 hits in the win, led by Cabral's 2-for-3, 3 RBI day. Hall extended his on-base streak to nine consecutive games.
After an off day on Monday, the Threshers head down to Port Charlotte to battle the Charlotte Stone Crabs in a three-game set. The series kicks off on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. with left-hander Bailey Falter (0-0) on the hill.
