Threshers Use Long Ball to Down Dunedin

Clearwater Plates Season-High 11 Runs in Win
July 2, 2014

Dunedin -- The Clearwater Threshers hit three home runs on their way to an 11-5 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Wednesday at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.

Clearwater (5-8) set a new season-high in runs and tied its season-high in hits with 15.

The Threshers scored at least one run in the first four innings against Blue Jays (4-9) starter Jesse Hernandez.

Everett Williams has already made an impact in his two games with the Threshers. After collecting a base hit and robbing a homer in Tuesday's game, Williams went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and three runs scored on Wednesday.

It was also a big night for Threshers' designated hitter Brandon Short. Short drove in a season-high four runs and finished with three hits and a run scored.

Colin Kleven had plenty of run support to work with, as he picked up the win after tossing five innings. Kleven (3-7) allowed four runs on 10 hits while walking two and striking out three.

Art Charles led off the seventh inning with a no doubt homer to right field off of Dunedin reliever Blake McFarland. Charles extended his team-leading big fly total to eight.

Roman Quinn and Brian Pointer also added home runs in the Threshers' route of the Blue Jays.

Cody Forsythe worked two hitless innings in relief of Kleven, striking out two without surrendering a walk.

Ethan Stewart made his first appearance out of the bullpen for the Threshers, as he pitched the final two innings. Stewart allowed a run on two hits while striking out three and walking four.

Game three of the four-game series is Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at Bright House Field. Jeb Stefan is expected to get the start for Clearwater and Ben White gets the call for Dunedin. Coverage begins at 6:45 on threshersbaseball.com
