HARTFORD, CT - The Hartford Yard Goats used a go-ahead three-run homer in the bottom of the 8th inning for the second straight game to beat the Trenton Thunder 4-3 Thursday night.
With a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 8th inning, Cody Carroll entered out of the bullpen for your Thunder and allowed a leadoff single to Max White before a strikeout to pinch-hitter Correlle Prime. Then a walk to leadoff hitter, Omar Carrizalez put the tying run up and brought the go-ahead run up.
Josh Fuentes- who homered earlier in the game off your Thunder starting pitcher Domingo Acevedo- is the reigning Eastern League Player of the Week and lived up to the billing with his second homer of the game to give Hartford their first lead of the night at 4-3.
In the 9th inning, your Thunder offense went 1-2-3 against Goats closer Shane Broyles who picked up his 18th save of the season in 19 opportunities. The offense plated single runs in the 1st, 2nd and 6th innings and was paced by two-hit nights by Nick Solak and Zack Zehner.
Acevedo was strong at the start by retiring the first ten men he faced before allowing the Fuentes homer. All-told, he went five innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out six and exiting in line for the victory.
Your Thunder pile on the bus and hit the road to Altoona following Thursday's loss. Friday night your Thunder begin a four-game, three-day series with the Altoona Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
