MANCHESTER, NH - The Trenton Thunder swung powerful bats Thursday morning and used four home runs to blast their way to a 9-2 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Your Thunder raced out to a 7-0 lead after a four-run top of the 5th inning, capped with a pair of home runs. Gleyber Torres lifted a high fly-ball homer just over the wall in left field and two batters later Miguel Andujar lasered a line-drive homer onto and over the roof of the Sam Adams Bar & Grill to extend the lead. Earlier in the game, the Thunder received a lift from a solo home run by Billy McKinney which was his third of the season and his second in as many games. With a 7-2 lead in the 9th inning with two outs, Jake Cave socked an opposite-field home run to put your Thunder ahead 9-2.
The home runs by Cave and Torres tie them for the team lead with Jorge Saez at 4 home runs apiece this season.
With the win, your Thunder improve to a season-best 10 games above .500 at 24-14 and maintain their 0.5 game lead over Reading for the best record in the East Division. Entering the series your Thunder had 21 home runs in 35 games before homering seven times in the three-game series.
The success against New Hampshire continues this season with the series sweep by your Thunder. Trenton is now 9-1 overall this season against the Fisher Cats including 6-0 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Your Thunder return to action Friday night at ARM & HAMMER Park against the Portland Sea Dogs with a scheduled 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
