The Rivals Plan gives fans a chance to experience six games against the top opponents on the schedule and includes free food at every game (hot dog, small soda, popcorn), a free ticket to Opening Night (April 3) and a free Thunder hat. When you think of baseball rivalries, it's safe to say that over a hundred years of history helps the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox top the list. This rivalry has certainly carried over to the Eastern League as the Thunder and Portland Sea Dogs (Boston affiliate) met in the post-season for four straight seasons as players such as Brett Gardner and Tyler Clippard faced off against Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia. The 2014 Rivals Plan includes two games against the Red Sox affiliate.
The Trenton Thunder and Reading Phillies are separated by a mere 73 miles. Adding fuel to the rivalry fire is the fact that Trenton's ARM & HAMMER Park and Citizen's Bank Park, home of Reading's Major League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phillies, are only 36 miles apart. Phillies fans are always quick to snatch up seats when their prospects visit Trenton and they've been fortunate to see stars such as Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard in Trenton over the years. The Rivals Plan includes two chances to see the future stars of the Phillies in 2014.
The Yankees cross town rival in the Big Apple, the New York Mets, also field a team in the Eastern League, the Binghamton Mets. The B-Mets' matchups against Trenton have allowed fans the chance to see stars like David Wright and Jose Reyes as they assended through the Mets farm system. This year's Rivals Plan includes one game against the Binghamton Mets.
Rounding out the six game Rivals plan is a contest against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. While the Yankees and Jays are AL East rivals, the Thunder and Fisher Cats have become rivals in the Eastern League Eastern Division. The two teams have reached the EL Championship Series a combined seven times in the last 10 years.
The Rivals Plan includes a hot dog, small soda and popcorn at each game, a free ticket to Opening Night (April 3), a free Thunder hat and a Personal Thunder Account Representative - if something comes up and you need to change a date, just call.
