Ishikawa helps Tides charge past Bisons

May 6, 2013

Travis Ishikawa homered twice to lead Norfolk to an 8-3 win over the Buffalo Bisons Monday night.

Ishikawa got the Tides on the board in the second inning with a two-run shot, then added a solo shot in a four-run fourth frame. The homers were the first of the season for Ishikawa, who now has a nine-game hitting streak.

Yamaico Navarro had four hits to lead Norfolk's 15-hit attack, while Jason Pridie added a double and a two-run home run. Jonathan Schoop and L.J. Hoes each contributed two hits for Norfolk, which has won 10 of its last 11 games.

Steve Johnson (1-1) earned his first win of the season after allowing two runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work. Johnson walked one and struck out eight while throwing 66 of his 94 pitches for strikes.

The win, combined with Durham's loss to Syracuse, moved Norfolk into sole possession of first place in the IL South division.

The two clubs continue their four-game set on Tuesday, with first pitch from Coca-Cola Field slated for 7:05. Jake Arrieta (2-0, 1.38) will make his third start of the season for the Tides.
