Jackson, Tides top Knights in Wednesday matinee

Tides pick up series win
April 10, 2013

Conor Jackson's three hits helped the Tides pick up their first series victory of 2013 as they knocked off Charlotte 6-4 Wednesday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Jackson, who spent the entire 2012 season with Charlotte, belted an RBI double and had two singles in the win to help pace Norfolk's 11-hit attack.  In seven games with the Tides thus far, Jackson is batting .316 (5-for-16) with two runs batted in.

The two clubs were tied at three entering the seventh inning, but Norfolk collected four hits and a walk off of reliever Tony Pena Jr. (0-1) to take a 6-3 lead.  Trayvon Robinson and Jason Pridie each had RBI singles in the decisive frame, while Russ Canzler added a sacrifice fly.

Canzler also belted a solo home run in the contest - the third straight game in which he's homered. Canzler, who entered play Wednesday tied for the IL lead in runs batted in, now has 10 of Norfolk's 22 RBI through seven games this year.

Manny Delcarmen (1-0) earned the win in relief, allowing one run on a hit in 1.2 innings of work. Jairo Asencio struck out two in a scoreless ninth to register his first save of the season.

The Tides head to Durham Thursday night to start a two-game set with the Bulls. Jair Jurrjens (0-0, 0.00) will take the hill for Norfolk against right-hander Alex Colome (0-0, 0.00), with first pitch set for 7:05.
