Pridie lifts Tides to comeback win

April 16, 2013

Jason Pridie's three-run triple with two outs in the ninth inning lifted Norfolk to a 4-3 win over Gwinnett Tuesday night from Coolray Field.

Trailing 3-1 entering the final frame, Travis Ishikawa ignited the rally with a leadoff double, and Trayvon Robinson and Yamaico Navarro each followed by working a walk off of Wirfin Obispo (0-1) to load the bases with nobody out. Obispo rebounded to strike out Luis Exposito and Jonathan Schoop, but Pridie lined a ball just inside the right field line to clear the bases and give the Tides a 4-3 advantage.

Norfolk closer Jairo Asencio then worked a scoreless ninth inning to register his league-leading fourth save of the season. Asencio has now retired each of the 15 batters he's faced this season.

The victory was Norfolk's third this season when trailing after seven and the second when trailing after eight innings of play.

Tides starter Jair Jurrjens yielded three runs in the first inning but bounced back to turn in his second Quality Start of the season.  Jurrjens, who owns a 2.60 ERA, walked one and struck out two.

The two clubs will continue their six-game home-and-home series Wednesday night from Coolray Field, with first pitch set for 6:05.  Freddy Garcia (1-0, 5.40) will take the hill for Norfolk against right-hander David Hale (1-0, 9.31).
