Tides fall despite another big night from Ishikawa

Ishikawa extends hitting streak to 10 games
May 7, 2013

The Buffalo Bisons plated two seventh inning runs to edge the Tides 6-4 Tuesday night from Coca-Cola Field.

With the score tied at 4-4 in the seventh, Mike Nickeas started the decisive rally with a two-out single off of Norfolk starter Jake Arrieta (2-1). Mike Belfiore was brought in to relieve, and Anthony Gose greeted him with a single to put runners on first and second. IL batting leader Jim Negrych then doubled into centerfield, plating both runners and giving the Bisons a 6-4 lead.

Norfolk brought the tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth innings but could not score, allowing the Bisons to even the series at one game apiece.

Travis Ishikawa once again led Norfolk's offense, as he extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a three-hit night. Ishikawa hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning, the third home run he's hit in the first two games of the series.

Arrieta took the loss after being charged with five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 6.2 innings of work. He walked two and struck out two while throwing 61 of his 99 pitches for strikes.

The two clubs will continue their series Wednesday night from Coca-Cola Field, with first pitch slated for 7:05. Jair Jurrjens (3-1, 2.56) will take the mound for the Tides against Buffalo right-hander Claudio Vargas (3-1, 3.10).
