Tides pound out 20 hits in 14-1 win

May 12, 2013

Norfolk set season highs with 14 runs and 20 hits in a 14-1 victory at Syracuse Sunday afternoon.

Every Tides batter collected a hit in the contest, with seven players collecting at least one run batted in. Danny Valencia led the offensive onslaught with three hits and five RBI as he finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

Valencia, Jason Pridie and Jonathan Schoop each finished with three hits and a home run, helping Norfolk up its advantage in the IL South to 3.0 games. Trayvon Robinson also added three hits in the win, while Yamaico Navarro added two hits and an RBI.

Chris Jones (2-0) earned the victory by allowing one run over 3.0 innings of relief, while Mark Hendrickson picked up his first save of the year by tossing three shutout innings out of the bullpen.

The Tides and Chiefs will wrap up their season series Monday afternoon, with first pitch set for 12:00.
