Tides pound out 22 hits in fifth straight win

June 4, 2014

Norfolk pounded out 22 hits - one shy of the franchise record - in a 14-7 win at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Wednesday night.

Brett Wallace had four hits to lead the offensive onslaught, as he was one of seven Tides batters to collect multiple hits in the game. Chris Marrero and Francisco Peguero each had three hits and three runs batted in for Norfolk, which had five doubles and 17 singles en route to picking up a fifth straight win.

The Tides finished 10-for-21 with runners in scoring position in the contest. In six games against the RailRiders this season, Norfolk has now plated 50 runs - an average of 8.3 runs per game.

Edgmer Escalona (1-0) earned the win with three innings of relief. Starter Kevin Gausman was removed after pitching just one inning - allowing three runs on two hits while throwing 26 pitches.

The two clubs will continue their four-game series on Thursday night, with first pitch from PNC Park set for 7:05. Suk-min Yoon (2-5, 5.67) will make the start for the Tides against right-hander Shane Green (3-2, 5.09).
