Top five games of Khris Davis as a Rattler
For the past few weeks, Top Five Tuesday has been looking at the best games of Timber Rattlers players who are going to be bobbleheads for the 2014 season. This week, we look at the best games of Khris Davis from the 2010 season.
Davis, who set the franchise record for homers in a season with 22 in 2010, is part of the 2014 Timber Rattlers Bobblehead Series. The date of the Davis Bobblehead is Sunday, August 3.
How good were his best games from 2010? I had to put a 4-for-5 game against Burlington from April 14 in the honorable mention slot and leave the walkoff single against Great Lakes on July 19 off the list. That's just ridiculous…Ridiculously good.
5.) May 23 vs. Burlington Bees: 4-for-5, Double, Two Runs, Two RBI
Khris Davis loved hitting against the Burlington Bees. In 2010, he went 30-for-72 (.417) in 19 games against the Bees. Davis drew eleven walks, had five doubles, a triple, hit seven home runs, and drove in 16 in those games. Burlington must have loved seeing the Rattlers.
In this game, he singled to drive in a run in the first inning and grounded out in the second. In the fifth, David singled to start the frame and scored later. In the sixth, he singled in a run with one out. In the eighth, he singled and scored. That's an efficient day with a hand in four runs for Davis.
4.) July 11 vs. Burlington Bees: 3-for-4, Two Home Runs, Two RBI, Two Runs, Walk, Stolen Base
Davis struck out in his first at bat of this game - his only strikeout in these games, by the way. Then, he singled and stole second in the fourth. The Rattlers led 2-0 in the sixth inning and Davis was due to leadoff against a new Burlington pitcher. He hit the first pitch reliever Sam Runion threw in the game and the Rattlers were up 3-0. Burlington scored a run in the top of the eighth to cut the Rattlers lead down to 3-1. David stepped in with one out and none on in the eighth and launched another home run - his 15th of the season - for his only multi-homer game of the 2010 season.
3.) May 5 vs. Quad Cities River Bandits: 4-for-4, Two Doubles, Home Run, Two Runs, Two RBI
Here's the thing about this game. On May 4, the Rattlers and River Bandits had a game suspended by rain in the bottom of the third. The game was restarted the next day. That meant the regularly scheduled game would be scheduled for seven innings.
Davis had a single in the first inning. He came back to the plate in the second and hit a two-run home run. In the fourth, he doubled. In the sixth, he doubled and came in to score a run that put the Rattlers up 9-6. Unfortunately, the River Bandits scored four times in the top of the seventh and held on to beat Wisconsin 10-9. Davis did not get to the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
2.) July 12 vs. Burlington Bees: 4-for-4, Double, Home Run, Two RBI, Walk, FIVE RUNS
Davis started the scoring in this 15-12 slugfest victory over the Bees with an RBI single in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Davis scored on a triple by Hunter Morris. In the third, with the Rattlers down 7-3 Davis singled with a runner on base. He would score later in the third. In the fifth, there was one out and none on with Burlington's lead stretched out to 9-5. Davis homered, his 16th of the season. He came up again in the seventh and Burlington was up 12-6. The Bees walked him the second of four straight walks issued by Rodolfo Encarnacion. Davis scored his fourth run of the game on a double by Michael Marseco. Now, it's the bottom of the eighth and the game is tied 12-12. Kentrail Davis has just singled. Khris Davis follows with another single to get on base for the fifth time in this game. Both would score in the inning and the Rattlers won the game 15-12.
1.) July 8 at Beloit Snappers: 4-for-5, Two Doubles, Home Run, Two Runs, FIVE RBI
Davis put the Rattlers up 1-0 with an RBI double in the first inning. In the third, Scooter Gennett reached on an error to start the inning. Davis followed with at two-run homer. There were two on with one out in the fourth inning and Davis doubled them both home. In the sixth, he was the leadoff batter and my scorebook notes that Davis was retired on a line drive back to the pitcher. In his final at bat, Davis singled with a runner on first and one out. Both runners scored on a double by Hunter Morris.
This list doesn't even list the most impressive performance Davis had in 2010. That would be the Home Run Derby performance in Fort Wayne on the day before the All-Star Game.
