Top Five Tuesday: Top Five Home Crowds of 2013

September 24, 2013

The Timber Rattlers had some great attendance numbers in the 2013 season. The team broke their record for single season average attendance and their single season record for most fans to attend games at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Details are here at this release.

This week's Top Five Tuesday takes a look at the top five crowds from the 2013 season along with the dates, the opponents, the scores, and some of the promotions.

5.) Saturday, July 13 vs. Lake County; Attendance: 5,785.  When you first look at this game you'll notice it's a Saturday. That means fireworks and that usually means a pretty decent crowd. If you look at the special promotion for that night from a baseball perspective, you may scratch your head a bit and wonder about the attendance. But, when you look at Meet a Storybook Princess Night from the entertainment perspective, it's not a surprise that this was one of the biggest crowds of the season. This is the kind of promotion that brings the families out in droves. Plus, the weather was outstanding. To top it all off, the Rattlers won the game 3-1 in the bottom of the eleventh on a Michael Reed home run.

4.) Wednesday, August 28 vs. Quad Cities; Attendance: 5,904.  Well, it was a Wednesday, a Bang for Your Buck Night, the last Bang for Your Buck Night of the season. The featured giveaway that night was a Carlos Gomez magnet, the fourth in a series of four for the 2013 season, to the first 500 fans. The Rattlers were heading into this game just one game behind Clinton for the second half wild card spot after their walkoff win over Kane County on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, the momentum stopped with Quad Cities beating the Rattlers 4-2.

3.) Saturday, August 24 vs. Kane County; Attendance: 6,567.  This was the first game of the last homestand of the 2013 season. Another Saturday night fireworks display brought out the fans. This was the first ever Milwaukee Bucks Night at a Timber Rattlers game. Bango, Seniorgee!, and the Milwaukee Bucks Dancers were all at the ballpark along with a lot of fans. It was a great show. But, the Cougars beat Wisconsin 5-3.

2.) Friday, August 16 vs. Peoria; Attendance: 6,683.  Birthday parties will bring out a lot of people. Fang's birthday party featured a huge number of mascots for a pre-game kickball contest, cake, treats, and post-game fireworks. Fang's team defeated Gnaf's team in that kickball game. The Rattlers would lose 7-2 to the Chiefs in the main game.

1.) Wednesday, August 14 vs. Peoria; Attendance: 6,698.  It shouldn't be a surprise that a Bang for Your Buck Night would be the top crowd of the season for the Timber Rattlers. There was one other circumstance that helped to boost the attendance on that night. Thrivent Financial hosted their employees and families and a special Wednesday fireworks display. It was extremely helpful that the weather was unbelievably perfect on this night. It was a good game, too…Until the Chiefs got a two-run home run in the top of the eleventh inning and beat the Timber Rattlers 3-1.
