TinCaps Shut Out Quad Cities, 7-0, Sweep Series

Fort Wayne Wins Fourth Straight
July 18, 2014

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Break up the TinCaps? Fort Wayne won its fourth game in a row and fifth in its last six Friday night at Quad Cities, 7-0. The win gave the TinCaps their first sweep away from Parkview Field this season and was their first shutout since May 15 at Lake County.

Cody Hebner (1-1) threw five scoreless innings on the mound for Fort Wayne (10-17, 40-56) in just his third start of the season. The 23-year-old right-hander from Washington yielded only one hit and one walk on 70 pitches. He struck out four.

Justin Livengood relieved Hebner with three innings of no-run ball of his own and Erik Carbera faced the minimum in the ninth. Quad Cities (12-15, 47-49 had just three hits and six base-runners all game. The TinCaps turned three doubleplays and catcher Adolfo Reina threw a runner out trying to steal second base for the second game in a row. The River Bandits never had a runner reach second base.

Offensively, eight Fort Wayne hitters had at least one hit. Shortstop Trea Turner led the way with a three-hit performance, which included an RBI double in the top of the third inning to score Josh VanMeter, who had also doubled, to give the TinCaps a 1-0 lead.

Franmil Reyes gave Fort Wayne a 2-0 advantage in the top of the fifth. The TinCaps broke the game open with four in the sixth. Adolfo Reina hit his seventh home run of the season as an exclamation point in the top of the ninth. Jandel Gustave (5-5) took the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) in five. He struck out a career-high nine.

Fort Wayne looks to keep its momentum going elsewhere in the Hawkeye State on Saturday at Cedar Rapids. Kyle Lloyd -- he of 13 strikeouts in his last start -- is scheduled to start for the TinCaps against Lewis Thorpe. The 6:05 game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and on the TuneIn Radio app.
