TinCaps Swept in Doubleheader

Lake County Wins 6-3, 6-4
June 6, 2014

Eastlake, Ohio - The TinCaps run of tough luck at Classic Park continued Thursday night as they dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Lake County Captains. Game one saw the Captains rally late for a 6-3 victory, and in game two Lake County took advantage of two TinCaps errors to lock up a 6-4 win.

Fort Wayne (26-33) opened early leads in both games, only to see them slip away as the contests wore in. In game one, the TinCaps scored two runs in the first inning against Cleveland Indians pitcher Zach McAllister, who made a rehab assignment start. Over the 26-year-old righthander's five innings, he allowed three runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out four. Fort Wayne starter Adrian De Horta (0-2) faced eight batters and allowed four runs in the third, but could not escape the inning. He surrendered four runs and left with just 2 2/3 innings under his belt, marking his shortest start of the year. Dustin Peterson, with an RBI Single in the fifth, added to his Midwest League-leading RBI total, hiking it to 47, but that was the end of the comeback in game one. Reliever Caleb Hamrick (2-3) pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Lake County (22-38) also fell behind, 2-0, in game two, but pounced on Fort Wayne's Erik Cabrera for five runs, three of them earned, to gain the edge. Catcher Adolfo Reina and first baseman Jake Bauers were charge with errors, leading to the two unearned runs. Cabrera (2-4) also threw two wild pitches in one inning, leading to another run for the Captains. In the second game, Bauers hit his fifth home run of the year. Matt Whitehouse (2-1) worked three scoreless innings for the win.

The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for Friday night at 7:00. The scheduled starters are Ronald Herrera for the TinCaps and Jordan Milbrath for the Captains. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380 and TheFanIndiana.com.
