Mud Hens blowout Bats 20-8 in Louisville

April 13, 2014

The Mud Hens provided the offensive fireworks on Sunday afternoon in Louisville. Powered by J.D. Martinez's six RBI, including two home runs, Toledo improved to 3-7 on the season with a 20-8 romp over the Bats.

The Hens recorded 22 hits in the decisive victory including 10 doubles and were 10-for-20 with runners in scoring position.

Hens SS Hernan Perez and C James McCann were a combined 8-for-13 with six RBI. Martinez blasted his third and fourth homers of year while CF Daniel Fields also homered in the blowout victory.

Starter Derek Hankins was given plenty of run support in this one but the right-hander was still solid on the mound for Toledo. Hankins gave up just two earned runs, five total, on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work. Hankins is now 1-1 on the season.

The Hens jumped all over Louisville starter David Holmberg early and often, tallying six runs right out of the gate. Holmberg falls to 0-2 on the year.

Louisville catcher Corky Miller was called upon to pitch in the top of the ninth and gave up eight runs in his relief appearance.

Toledo and Louisville will go at it again on Monday evening with first pitched slated for 6:35 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field.
