Toledo starter Matt Hall struck out eight batters across five innings. He gave up three runs, all in the fifth inning. It started with a single by Gabriel Guerrero, driving in C.J. McElroy. The next batter, D.J. Peterson doubled home two more runs.
The Mud Hen attack did not take a long time to answer back. In the bottom of the sixth, Dixon Machado crossed the plate on a fielders choice. Mikie Mahtook was also able to drive Stewart home with a single.
The Hen Pen looked strong, giving up no earned runs. Paul Voelker was the first out, who held the Bats scoreless. Warwick Saupold did the same thing. Next in was Josh Smoker, who completed his Mud Hen debut with a strikeout.
Johnny Barbato entered the game with the game still tied in the ninth. One runner got on, but then Josh VanMeter bunted a ball foul with two strikes for the first out. The next batter, pinch hitter Hernan Iribarren, doubled. Brian O'Grady broke the tie, driving in two on a single. Due to a throwing error by Machado, both runs were unearned.
The Bats called upon their closer, Kevin Quackenbush, to shut the door in the bottom half. He started by walking Grayson Greiner. A pair of outs was made via strikeouts of Mahtook and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The game came to a close with a Harold Castro groundout.
