DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Blake Butler's two-out pinch-hit two-run single catapulted the Daytona Tortugas to a 5-4 win, their fifth straight, and a sweep of the Jupiter Hammerheads on Sunday evening at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in front of 2,790 fans.
The eighth inning started with an innocent opposite field single by Alfredo Rodriguez with two outs off of Jupiter LHP José Quijada. After consecutive walks to Narciso Crook and Garrett Boulware, Butler lined a sharp knock to center to score Rodriguez and Crook to put Daytona in front, 5-4.
The other Daytona runs on the night came courtesy of Nick Senzel. He singled home Shed Long to get the Tortugas on the board first in the opening frame. His two-run homer in the fifth inning, his second of the season, plated he and Chris Okey to bring the Tortugas within a run, 4-3.
Nine Hammerheads came to the plate with four unearned runs scoring in the top half of that fifth frame. Justin Bohn's RBI single, and a subsequent two-base error, unloaded the bases to give the Hammerheads a 3-1 advantage. A fielding error by Senzel, during Angel Reyes' at-bat, enabled Bohn to score and make it 4-1.
Daytona starter RHP Jonathan Crawford logged 4 1/3 innings on the hill, yielding two hits, four walks, and punching out three. RHP Sandy Lugo fanned two and surrendered a hit over 2 2/3 innings. LHP Juan Martinez (1-0) went the last two stanzas, striking out one and walking two.
Jupiter RHP Trevor Richards didn't factor in the decision, after allowing nine hits and three earned runs over five innings of work.
The Florida Fire Frogs come to town next as the six-game homestand continues on Monday evening at The Jack. It's another Belly Buster Monday with all-you-can-eat hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, and popcorn with the purchase of a $12 general admission ticket. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM with the pregame show beginning at 6:50 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
