KISSIMMEE, FL - The Florida Fire Frogs walked-off on a Daytona error in their 2-1 victory Monday night at Osceola County Stadium. It was Florida's third walk-off win of the year and first since April 7th.
In the bottom of the ninth, leading 1-0, RHP Zack Weiss (1-1) entered in place of RHP Jesús Reyes looking to nail down the Daytona win and earn his second save of the season. After punching out Ray-Patrick Didder to open the frame, Alejandro Salazar doubled down the right-field line and Anfernee Seymour followed with an infield single to put two men on. Weiss proceeded to fan Alay Lago to put the ballgame in the hands of Tyler Neslony. The Florida DH delivered by softly lining a single to left which easily brought in Salazar. The play turned tragic when Shane Mardirosian over-ran and bobbled the baseball, before proceeding to throw in to second base, allowing Seymour to come in all the way from first and score the winning tally.
Reyes earned his toughest no-decision of the season, firing eight shutout stanzas and yielding just three hits and a walk with six strikeouts.
Reydel Medina, a late addition to the lineup, was responsible for the only Tortuga run of the game. He homered to right off of RHP Touki Toussaint in the top of the second inning to put Daytona on the board, 1-0.
Toussaint pitched one of his best outings of the year on his way to a no-decision. He permitted five hits, a single run, and struck out five while tossing 100 pitches. LHP A.J. Minter struck out the side in the eighth for Florida, while RHP Devin Watts (1-0) worked around a single by Chadwick Tromp in the ninth.
Daytona looks to rebound on Tuesday evening against the Fire Frogs in game two of the set. First pitch from Osceola County Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show commencing at 6:50 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
