Viera, FL - Dan Vogelbach went 4-for-4 with a home run, powering the Cubs to a 7-3 victory over the Brevard County Manatees at Space Coast Stadium on Thursday.

Daytona trailed 3-1 after the second inning, but plated six-straight runs to secure the victory.

RHP Yao-Lin Wang started the game for the Cubs and surrendered the three runs on three hits, with four walks and two strikeouts, but RHP Ben Wells (W, 1-1) tossed three-plus scoreless innings of relief following Wang.

Wells started the eighth, but after surrendering a walk to DH Alfredo Rodriguez and a single to 1B Garrett Cooper, RHP Stephen Perakslis was called on from the bullpen. Perakslis induced a groundout and a double play to strand both runners on base.

In the ninth, RHP Arodys Vizcanio loaded the bases with two walks and a single before an out was made, but with the tying run at the plate, Vizcaino struck out back-to-back Manatees before getting Rodriguez to line out to end the game.

Vogelbach, who was hitting with the Manatees playing a defensive shift all night, lined three singles to left field before launching the home run well over the right field fence in the eighth, his second longball of the season.

"I had been over-thinking things," Vogelbach said. "I just came in tonight and made things real simple for myself."

Vogelbach has been working with Daytona Hitting Coach Mariano Duncan on simplifying his approach at the plate.

"I was thinking dead-red fastball," Vogelbach said. "Dunk [Mariano Duncan] always preaches sitting on the fastball and that's what I got."

Cubs second baseman Gioskar Amaya reached base three more times in the game with two singles and a walk, and is now 8-for-12 in three games since being activated off the Disabled List.

CF Albert Almora went 2-for-4 with a double, and a clutch two-run single in the third inning that knotted the game at 3-3.

With the win, the Cubs improved to 6-14 on the season and have won four of their last five games.

Daytona and Brevard County will play game two of the four-game, split-series on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium. RHP Felix Pena (1-3, 1.38) is slated to toe the rubber for the Cubs, while RHP Tyler Wagner (3-0, 1.17) will get the nod for the Manatees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
