Balanced Attack Sends Tourists Past Suns

September 3, 2016

ASHEVILLE, NC-- Not much went wrong for the Asheville Tourists on Saturday night as they methodically defeated the Hagerstown Suns 5-2 to even up the series at one game apiece. Asheville used 13 hits and a great pitching performance from Trey Killian to secure the victory.

The Tourists fell behind 2-0 in the top of the second inning; Killian's only blemish. Rhett Wiseman hit a lead-off Home Run for the Suns and Edwin Lora chipped in a sacrifice fly. Asheville would go on to score the game's final five runs.

In the bottom of the second, Sam Hilliard scored on Chris Rabago's RBI groundout. In the fourth, Rabago tripled to begin the frame, and then scored on Mylz Jones' single into right field. Jones would later score on a base hit by Chris Keck to put the Tourists in front.

Asheville added another in the fifth on a Rabago sacrifice fly and one more in the sixth on Carlos Herrera's two-out RBI single. Hagerstown's starting pitcher, Tyler Watson, suffered the loss by allowing four runs in five innings.

Trey Killian settled in after the second inning and at one point retired 13 of 14 Suns batters. The right-hander moved his record to 12-6 with the win and increased his season strikeout total to 136. In 2015, Tourists pitcher Sam Howard led the South Atlantic League with 122 strikeouts.

Ben Bowden and Alexander Guillen tossed the final two frames for the Tourists. Each reliever recorded two strikeouts in their scoreless innings of work. Scotty Burcham finished 4-for-5, while Hilliard, Rabado, and Jones each added two hits.
