ASHEVILLE--The Asheville Tourists dropped their fourth straight on Wednesday night; a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Kannapolis Intimidators. The visitors notched a series sweep and the Tourists were held to a single run for the second consecutive evening.
Riley Pint drew the start for the Tourists and looked sharp through 4.2 innings. Pint mixed his pitches well and retired seven of the first eight batters he faced. In the top of the third, Brandon Dulin worked a long at-bat against Pint before doubling home the game's first run.
Kannapolis added one more in the fifth, but the combination of Pint, Ryan Luna, and Ty Culbreth made sure that was all of the offense the Intimidators would provide.
Asheville's bats were kept even quieter. The Tourists recorded a season-low four hits and did not have a runner reach base in any inning with less than two outs. Max George did square up a Bernardo Flores offering in the bottom of the fifth for a solo Home Run.
With the score 2-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, Intimidators' pitcher Kyle Kubat hit a pair of Tourists with two outs. Willie Abreu then drove a deep fly to the warning track in left field that was hauled in by Tyler Sullivan to end the game.
The Tourists will attempt to snap their four-game skid on the road. Asheville begins a four-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs on Thursday night at 7:05pm.
