ASHEVILLE-- The Asheville Tourists dropped their sixth straight game; a 7-3 loss courtesy of the Rome Braves. The visitors completed a four-game sweep with the win and have handed Asheville 12 losses in 15 meetings this season. The Tourists also dropped to 0-11 in day games played at McCormick Field.
Riley Pint started for the Tourists and the right-hander pitched well. Rome used some stingy at-bats to plate one in the second and two more in the third. The two third inning runs were both unearned. The Braves added to their lead with another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Trailing 6-0, the Tourists finally made some noise against Rome's starting pitcher Joey Wentz in the seventh. Tyler Nevin hit a solo Home Run to right and two batters later Max George blasted a solo shot to left. Asheville added one more in the eighth on a Manny Melendez RBI groundout, but the lead was too much to overcome.
The Braves outhit the Tourists 14-3 and totaled 27 runs over the four game series. Rome's offense had been scuffling entering this series and has been shut out six times in the month of July.
During the six-game losing streak, Asheville's offense has yet to score more than four runs in a game; something they did in every game of their six-game win streak that preceded the current skid.
Next up is a seven-game road swing that begins in Greenville on Monday night. The first pitch is set for 7:05pm.
