ASHEVILLE--The Asheville Tourists racked up 13 runs on 15 hits in a 13-2 blowout of the Hagerstown Suns on Monday night. Asheville has scored ten runs or more in a game three times this season; all three have come against Hagerstown.
After dropping two close contests to the Suns, the Tourists were determined to pick up a win. Asheville wasted little time offensively. They scored five runs in the first inning. Jose Gomez and Vince Fernandez both singled, Colton Welker and Willie Abreu both doubled, and Max George crushed a two-run Home Run--all in the first inning.

Hagerstown scored their only two runs of the night in the second, but the Tourists countered with a run in the second and another in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. Welker hit a Home Run in the seventh to make it 9-2. It was his third Home Run of the season and all three are against the Suns.
In the eighth, Cole Anderson left the yard with his first Home Run of the season. Later, Welker hit an RBI single for his fifth RBI of the game and Luis Castro added an RBI double.
The 13 runs scored is a season-high. Asheville also used a season-high six pitchers in the game. Brandon Gold notched his second win of the year by tossing five innings and recording six strikeouts.
Fernandez doubled three times in part of his 4-for-4 performance. Fernandez crossed home plate five times in the win. The Tourists finished the game with a season-high nine extra-base hits (six doubles and three Home Runs).
The two teams will face off for the final time in 2017 on Tuesday morning with a special education day start time set for 11:05am.
