Corpus Christi, TX-The Corpus Christi Hooks shutout the Arkansas Travelers 5-0 on Saturday night in Corpus Christi in front of a crowd of 4,971.
Two Hooks right-handers, Rogelio Armenteros and Josh James combined on the blanking. Armenteros pitched the first five innings surrendering only two hits and a walk while striking out eight. James then pitched the final four innings giving up just a single hit while getting three strikeouts. Armenteros (1-0) earned the win while James picked up his first save. Tyler Marlette had two of the Travs three hits.
Corpus Christi would get the lead in the 3rd when Ramon Laureano hit a 3-run homer. The Hooks would later add single runs in the 5th and 7th innings, both driven in by J.D. Davis including a solo homer in the 7th. The three-run homer came off Travs' starter Brett Ash (1-1) who worked four innings but was tagged with the loss.
The roadtrip now takes the Travs to San Antonio where they take on the Missions in a three game set. The opener is Sunday afternoon at 2:05 with right-hander Lindsey Caughel (0-1, 8.44) pitching for the Travs against right-hander Kyle Lloyd (2-0, 0.00) for the Missions. The game will be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
