Oye & Company Shutout Frisco

June 26, 2013

North Little Rock, Arkansas - Matt Oye and two relievers combined on a six-hit shutout on Wednesday night in the Arkansas Travelers 2-0 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders at Dickey-Stephens Park. Oye (W, 5-5) dealt six innings allowing just six base hits in earning his first win in six starts. Caleb Kevin Johnson (9) fired two perfect innings to save the Travs' eighth shutout win of the season.

The win is the Travs' fourth in six games and improves their second half record to 4-3. Frisco falls to 3-4 with their third straight loss.

The Travs struck in the first inning after Luis Montanez hit a two-out double and scored when C.J. Cron's smash took a bad hop over third base for an RBI single.

Jimmy Swift accounted for the second run with a solo home run (2) in the seventh inning.

Frisco had many opportunities early on against Oye with four hits and a walk over three innings, but all five runners were stranded.

With two outs in the first inning Oye allowed a Brett Nicholas single and a double by Alex Buchholz putting runners at second and third.   Chih-Hsien Chiang was induced into a routine fly out to end the inning.

Tomas Telis opened Frisco's second inning with a single, which was followed by a fly out by Odubel Herrera. Telis was forced at second when Oye got Ryan Strausborger to bounce to third base. Hanser Alberto's single moved Strausborger to second base, but both were stranded when Teodoro Martinez flied out to center field.

Frisco second baseman Guilder Rodriguez opened the third with a walk and moved to second on a passed ball. Chiang struck out to end the frame leaving Rodriguez at second.

Herrera hit a one-out single off Oye in the fourth inning, but he responded by retiring six consecutive hitters before Chiang hit a one-out single in the sixth. Telis then flied to left field and Randal Grichuk made a great diving catch in centerfield to end the inning on a liner from Herrera.

Caleb Graham pitched the seventh inning without allowing a base runner. Johnson earned his first save since May 16 with two perfect innings.

The Travs and 'Riders are set for a 7:10 first pitch on Thursday night. Travelers lefty Michael Roth (2-2, 3.61) takes on Frisco's right hander Nick McBride (1-3, 6.14).
