Travs Blanked 4-0 By Hounds

April 8, 2013

NORTH LITTLE ROCK - Monday night at Dickey-Stephens Park the Midland RockHounds took their second straight game from the Arkansas Travelers by shutting out the Travs, 4-0.  Midland's Arnold Leon allowed only one hit, a second-inning single by C.J. Cron, over five innings while making his first Double-A start since 2009.

Arkansas RH Matt Oye was saddled with the losing decision despite starting the game by throwing five hitless innings.  Oye ran in to some trouble in the sixth when he surrendered consecutive singles to begin the inning to Jake Goebbert and Anthony Aliotti.

The Travs went to the bullpen and called on Daniel Tillman.  Tillman allowed one of the two inherited runners to come home on a sacrifice fly to Jefry Marte.

Midland tacked on two more in the seventh.  Jeremy Berg started the inning for the Travs but was quickly pulled after only retiring one Midland batter.  Darwin Perez walked to start the inning, stole second base, and advanced to third on a throwing error.  Chad Oberacker singled him in to plate a run. Aliotti drover home Oberacker on a single to right field.

The Travs lone threat of the night came in the eighth. Trailing 4-0 with two outs in the inning, Rolando Gomez singled before a pinch-hit double by Jett Bandy. Midland southpaw Frank Gailey worked out of the inning by inducing a fly out to center by Travis Witherspoon.

Kyler Newby pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Midland to help the RockHounds secure their fifth straight win to open the season.

The Travs look to avoid a sweep when they face Midland in the finale Tuesday night.  The Travs send lefty Michael Roth to the mound.  The former University of South Carolina standout will be making his Double-A debut against Midland's Murphy Smith. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Coverage of the game can be heard locally on Sports Animal 920 or through the iHeart Radio mobile application starting at 6:45 p.m. with the Travs Dugout Show.
