The Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, are pleased to announce the return of their F.I.E.L.D. Program. F.I.E.L.D. is a Thunder initiative that stands for Focused Initiative for Enhanced Learning and Development.
The program supports youth baseball in the area. Members of the Thunder front office, The Grand Slam We Care Foundation, Rue Insurance, the City of Trenton, Isles Youth Institute and the Mercer County Improvement Authority will come together to renovate the fields at North Trenton Little League located at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Friday, April 27 at 12:00pm.
"The Thunder are once again excited to partner with the City of Trenton to revitalize our local little league fields," said Vince Marcucci, Director of Corporate and Community Affairs for the Trenton Thunder. "This year, North Trenton Little League located in Martin Luther King Jr. Park will have two fields receive over $10,000 worth of improvements. In addition, we've collaborated with Rue Insurance and Isles Youth Institute to provide volunteers to make the whole project possible. This is an exciting time in the City of Trenton and with the help of our local businesses and community members, we can create a better future for our city's children."
"Rue Insurance's commitment to supporting our local community has dated back to our founding over 100 years ago," said Bill Rue Jr., President of Rue Insurance. "Our partnership with the Trenton Thunder in its F.I.E.L.D. Renovation Project is just the latest example of our commitment. Rue has been a supporter of the North Trenton Youth Baseball League for many years, and when this opportunity was presented to me, I was happy that we were able to partner with the Thunder to make it happen. Through our work in insurance, we advise families on how to protect their future every day. Renovating the North Trenton field is another way for us to help the local community strengthen its future."
More than 50 volunteers from Rue Insurance, Isles Youth Institute, MCIA and the Trenton Thunder will remove trash, paint dugouts and concession stands as well as re-grade the field of play with new dirt and revitalize the playing surface for North Trenton Little League's regular season.
"I'm excited to participate in the field renovation event because every little bit of help counts," said Heather Mela, Human Resources Manager for Rue Insurance. "Not only does this event bring us together as a company, it improves the physical condition of the community, and most importantly we get to help give the children of Trenton a beautiful and safe field to play on. That is a GREAT feeling! My hope is that when people see others coming together for the greater good of the community, it will create a chain reaction and motivate them to do the same."
The F.I.E.L.D. program would not be possible without the outstanding support of the Mercer County Improvement Authority and Rue Insurance. In 1967 the Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA) was created under the County Improvement Authorities Law to undertake certain projects for the benefit of the residents of Mercer County. As such, programs and services are available to assist the County, municipalities, school and fire districts and not-for-profits in the areas of financing, project management, redevelopment, solid waste and recycling.
