Right-hander Michael King pitched the first nine-inning, complete-game shutout of his career Saturday night, highlighting a 6-0 Thunder win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in front of a crowd of 5,354 at ARM & HAMMER Park.
Making his sixth double-A start and his seventh appearance overall for the Thunder (46-34), King matched a career-high with 11 strikeouts, walked none, and allowed just three hits in his dominant performance. King threw 103 pitches, 78 for strikes.
A two-out single by Connor Panas in the fifth inning was the final New Hampshire (46-33) batter that King allowed to reach base, after which the right-hander retired the final 13 men in a row to finish the game.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Gosuke Katoh worked a leadoff walk from Fisher Cats starter Jordan Romano. Trey Amburgey followed with an infield single, and the next batter, Jeff Hendrix, bunted toward third. New Hampshire third baseman Nash Knight fielded the ball and overthrew first base, allowing Katoh to score and Amburgey to reach third. Mandy Alvarez followed with a groundout to shortstop Bo Bichette that plated Amburgey.
Alvarez drove in three of Trenton's six runs, adding a two-run homer off Romano in the sixth. Devyn Bolasky contributed a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Jhalan Jackson hit his team-leading 13th home run, a solo shot to left field, off reliever Nick Hartman in the seventh to cap the Thunder's scoring for the evening.
The game lasted just one hour and 56 minutes, the Thunder's shortest game of the season.
Your Thunder continue their homestand on Sunday afternoon at 1pm against the Fisher Cats. RHP Trevor Stephan (2-3, 4.50) will start for the Thunder, and RHP T.J.
