Thunder Sweep Away Senators, 6-0, on Wednesday

The Thunder completed a sweep of the Harrisburg Senators with a 6-0 win on Wednesday afternoon in front of an Education Day crowd of 5,859 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park.With the win, the Thunder own the best record in the Double-A at 17-8 and have won five straight games.

The Thunder completed a sweep of the Harrisburg Senators with a 6-0 win on Wednesday afternoon in front of an Education Day crowd of 5,859 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park.
With the win, the Thunder own the best record in the Double-A at 17-8 and have won five straight games. Three of the last four victories, the Thunder have shutout their opponent and they own a 16-5 record in their last 21 games.


A six-run fourth inning accounted for the entirety of the Thunder offense. Working against Mark Blackmar, Zack Zehner began the hit parade with a run-scoring double. Devyn Bolasky followed him with a two-run triple and Vince Conde singled in Bolasky for a 4-0 lead. After a walk from Francisco Diaz, Thairo Estrada doubled in a run and Billy McKinney scored Estrada with a sacrifice fly.
The 6-0 lead was a strong cushion for Domingo Germán, who earned his first victory of the season. German struck out a season-high nine batters and allowed just four baserunners. Colten Brewer and JP Feyereisen closed down the third shutout for the Thunder in the last four games. The Thunder had 15 shutout wins in 2016 and have five already through 25 games in 2017.
Miguel Andújar and Thairo Estrada each had two-hit days to lead the Thunder offense. Mike Ford completed the homestand 12-for-21 (.571) with three walks (.625 OBP) and extended his on-base streak to seven games on Wednesday afternoon. Gleyber Torres went 0-for-3 with a walk and reached base in all six games of the homestand, he reached in 13-of-24 plate appearances (.542 OBP) and drove in six.

LHP Justus Sheffield (1-0, 2.82) will start for the Thunder, LHP Anthony Vasquez (2-1, 2.70) will go for Erie.
