The Tri-City Dust Devils (13-25 2H, 42-59) took an early 2-0 lead but the Everett AquaSox

(18-20 2H, 49-54) held the home side off the scoreboard the rest of the night, coming back for a 4-2 win Wednesday night at Gesa Stadium.

The Dust Devils got off to a hot start, with D’Shawn Knowles legging out an infield single and Kyren Paris laying a bunt single down the third base line to put two on with no one out.

AquaSox starter Jimmy Joyce (5-10) initially felt the heat, following a strikeout by hitting the next two batters, Gabe Matthews and Joe Stewart. Stewart’s hit-by-pitch scored Knowles from third base to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead. Mike Peabody then drew a bases loaded walk to double the lead to 2-0.

Joyce then induced a 1-2-3 double play to end the threat, and the Dust Devils did not score the rest of the night, leaving ten runners on base.

Everett answered the Tri-City runs in the 2nd on Dariel Gomez’s Northwest League-leading 20th home run, a two-run shot to right field off Dust Devils starter Jake Smith (1-5). Gomez then doubled in the 4th inning, scoring on a Mike Salvatore double to give the AquaSox a 3-2 lead.

Tri-City then threatened again in the 5th, loading the bases with one out via three straight singles from Knowles, Paris and Osmy Gregorio, but Joyce got a strikeout and groundout to get out of the jam.

In the top of the 6th, Everett’s James Parker doubled to lead off the inning. Two groundouts followed, the second by Cole Barr scoring Parker to make it 4-2.

The Dust Devils would muster one more charge in the 9th inning, again via Knowles and Paris. Knowles singled the opposite way, finishing a 3 for 5 night, and Paris walked to reach base for the fourth time. AquaSox reliever Tim Elliott put out the fire, though, striking out Gregorio to end the game and get his second save.

With the series now tied at a game apiece the teams clash in game three of the six-game set at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night at Gesa Stadium. Southpaw Nick Mondak (2-6, 5.59 ERA), the reigning Northwest League Pitcher of the Week via five perfect innings last Friday in Vancouver, faces Everett righty Jordan Jackson (0-0, 9.00 ERA).
