Despite three home runs the Tri-City Dust Devils (0-2) could not produce a final rally as the team lost 9-8 Saturday night to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (2-0).
The game got off to a bumpy beginning for Tri-City. Starting pitcher Adrian Martinez allowed five runs to Salem-Keizer in the first two innings. The early deficit proved to be manageable for the Dust Devils. Back-to-back home runs from Aldemar Burgos and Owen Miller helped Tri-City tie the game in the fifth inning.
Olivier Basabe blasted a three-run home run in the top eighth inning to give Tri-City their lone lead of the night, but the advantage would slip away later in the frame. Reliever Wen-Hua Sung surroundered two runs to the Volcanoes, giving Salem-Keizer a lead they would not relinquish. Tri-City will look for their first win of the season on Sunday. Right-hander Cole Bellinger will start the middle game of the series for the Dust Devils.
Tri-City will return to Gesa Stadium for the home opener on June 20th to start a three-game series against the Spokane Indians. The home opener will be Magnet Schedule Giveaway Night sponsored by Tri-Cities Community Health and there will be a postgame fireworks show presented by CO-Energy. Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' front office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
