Dust Devils Announce Partnership with San Diego Padres

Padres Prospects to Play in Tri-City Starting in 2015
September 19, 2014

The Tri-City Dust Devils and San Diego Padres are proud to announce a player development partnership that will make the Dust Devils the Short Season Single-A affiliate of the Padres beginning in 2015. The affiliation will last at least through the 2016 season.

"Tri-City has a long history as a Short-Season A affiliate, helping players establish their professional footing and prepare for the next step in their careers," said Padres Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller. "The Padres are excited to return to the Tri-Cities and we look forward to building a great relationship with the Dust Devils' ownership, management, and fans."

"We're very excited to be partnering with the Padres," said Dust Devils President Brent Miles.   "The Dust Devils will continue to be committed to providing affordable family entertainment, and we're thrilled to have the Padres as a part of the Dust Devils family."

The Padres' Minor League system is regarded by most publications as one of the deepest in baseball and has produced champions at the low-A, high-A, and AA levels since 2009.

This will be the Padres' second stint as a Major League affiliate in Tri-City. The Tri-City Padres played in the Northwest League from 1970 to 1972 and won a championship in 1971. During the Padres' original stint in the Tri-Cities, the club produced 15 future Major Leaguers, including 1976 Cy Young Award winner and Padres Hall of Famer Randy Jones, who made his professional debut with the Short-Season A club during the 1972 season.

The Padres had been affiliated with the Eugene Emeralds since 2001. Prior to that, the Padres had Northwest League affiliates in Spokane (1983-1994, including four consecutive championships in 1987-1990) and Walla Walla (1972-1982, with a championship in 1976). "While we appreciate the great relationship we've had with Eugene, we are excited and look forward to a long relationship with Tri-City," said Padres Vice President/Player Development Randy Smith.

The Dust Devils were affiliated with the Colorado Rockies since the Dust Devils' founding in 2001. "The Rockies were a great partner in the Tri-Cities for 14 years and we wish them nothing but the best in the future," said Miles. The Boise Hawks announced Friday that they will be the Rockies' new Short Season Single-A affiliate.

The Dust Devils' first game as a Padres affiliate will be June 18, 2015, at Boise. The first home game for the Dust Devils in 2015 will be June 23 versus Vancouver. Ticket packages for the 2015 season are on sale now. Ticket plans start at just $56, with full-season tickets available for as low as $259. Special ticket rates are available for groups of 20 or more. Season tickets, mini-plans, and group tickets can be purchased by contacting the Dust Devils front office at (509) 544-8789 or at the Gesa Stadium box office.
