Trailing 6-1 going to the 7th inning, it looked bleak for the Tri-City Dust Devils (1-1, 30-35), but the visitors scored seven runs in the final three innings for a thrilling 8-6 win over the Eugene Emeralds (1-1, 39-26) Saturday night at PK Park. The comeback began with a five-run

The comeback began with a five-run 7th inning, tying the game at 6-6. Christian Molfetta flared a double down the right field line, scoring Kyle Kasser to make it a 6-2 game. Jordyn Adams followed by lining a two-run double to right center, bringing home Edwin Yon, who reached on an error, and Molfetta to get Tri-City within two at 6-4.

Following a D’Shawn Knowles walk and Kyren Paris getting hit by a pitch to load the bases, Gabe Matthews then stroked a two-run double to left-center which scored Adams and Knowles to tie the game at 6-6.

The Dust Devils then took the lead in the 8th inning. Yon tripled down the left field line, his second in as many nights, and Mike Peabody then hit a long sacrifice fly to center off Eugene’s Brooks Crawford (4-2) to score Yon easily and give Tri-City a 7-6 lead.

The visitors added a run in the 9th. Paris laid down a perfect bunt for a single, and then stole second. A Matthews single moved Paris to third, from where he scored on a groundball double play for an 8-6 lead.

Kyle Molnar (2-0) covered things on the mound, allowing only one baserunner in throwing three scoreless innings to earn the win. Ryan Costeiu started and went six innings, striking out six and getting a no-decision.

Also, catcher Kyle Lovelace made two early contributions to the winning cause. In the bottom of the 1st, Lovelace made an amazing catch on a pop-up behind home plate, holding on to the ball while colliding at full speed into the backstop. The fans in Eugene applauded Lovelace for both the effort and catch.

Lovelace also shot an RBI single into left field in the 2nd inning, giving Tri-City a 1-0 lead. He came out of the game following the hit, with Molfetta pinch running and taking up his catching duties from there.
