Despite scoring three runs in the first inning, the Tri-City Dust Devils (13-14) fell to the Hillsboro Hops (19-8) on Thursday night 9-5. Owen Miller, Olivier Basabe and Kelvin Alarcon each had two hits for the Dust Devils in the loss.
Hillsboro would start to cut into Tri-City's lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Hops scored two runs in the first inning and added three more in the second inning, giving them a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Dan Dallas was once again impressive in relief for the Dust Devils. Dallas retired all four batters he faced in order to lower his ERA to 0.60.
Tri-City will send right-hander Sam Keating to the mound in the middle game of the five-game series on Friday night. The Dust Devils will face right-hander Matt Mercer, who will toe the rubber for Hillsboro. The next home game for Tri-City will be on Monday, July 16. The opener of the eight-game homestand will be Home Run Derby Night presented by The Batters Box and a Coca-Cola Monday, where all 22 oz.
