Dust Devils' Roster Unveiled
Pitchers - Aaron Weatherford, a third-round draft pick in 2008 who did not pitch last year, will make his debut with the Dust Devils in 2009. He is tabbed as the 21st best prospect in the Rockies' system by Baseball America. Matt Baugh, Craig Benningson and Kyle Walker will debut with Tri-City this year after spending the previous season in Casper. Brad McAtee, Sheng-An Kuo, and Rod Scurry return to the Dust Devils from the 2008 roster. Casey Weathers, the Rockies' first round pick in 2007 and the organization's sixth best prospect according to Baseball America, will spend the summer rehabbing in Tri-City after undergoing Tommy John surgery last fall. Former Dust Devil William Harris will also begin the season in Tri-City recovering from an injury suffered in Tulsa (double-A).
Catchers - Jose Gonzalez is entering his fifth professional year in the Rockies' system and will be making his debut with the Dust Devils in 2009. Chris Vasami will return to the Dust Devils as a catcher rather than an infielder, which he has played in previous years.
Infielders - The infield will see the return of Bo Bowman, who hit five home runs in 21 games for the Dust Devils last season. Also returning are Andy Goff and Austin Rauch. Alex Feinberg and Michael Zuanich will make their debuts after spending the past year in Casper.
Outfielders - In the outfield, Leonardo Reyes and James Sims will be returning to Tri-City. Moving up a level after spending the 2007 and 2008 seasons in Casper are Orlando Sandoval and Shane Lowe. Scott Beerer, a second round pick in 2003 as a pitcher and a member of the 2004 Dust Devils, will be returning to baseball after a two year hiatus as an outfielder.
The Rockies will assign drafted players to the Dust Devils in the next few days as they are signed to professional contracts.
