The Tri-City Dust Devils (2-6 2H, 31-40) got the potential tying run aboard in the bottom of the 9th inning, but the Hillsboro Hops (5-3 2H, 34-38) held on for a 3-2 win Saturday night at Gesa Stadium.

The Hops scored their three runs in the 2nd inning, a day after Hillsboro scored five runs in the same frame. RBI singles from Channy Ortiz, Lyle Lin and Cam Coursey off Dust Devils starter Ryan Costeiu (3-4) gave the visitors a 3-0 lead.

Costeiu held the Hops off the scoreboard the rest of the way, striking out nine in five innings of work. Hayden Seig followed with two perfect innings of relief and Glenn Albanese finished with two scoreless innings of work.

Tri-City scored their pair of runs in the 5th inning. Mike Peabody reached as a hit batter, and Osmy Gregorio followed with a double. Peabody came home on a wild pitch, and Gregorio scored on an RBI groundout by Edwin Yon to get the Dust Devils within a run.

Andrew Saalfrank (3-1) got the win for Hillsboro in relief of Marcos Tineo, who started and went 4.1 innings. Saalfrank went 2.2 innings without allowing a runner. Christian Montes de Oca closed out the 9th inning for his second save.
