The Tri-City Dust Devils (7-12, 25-32) came away with the 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canadians (12-7, 31-26) in the opening game of the road series on Tuesday night at Nat Bailey Stadium. Jordan Guerrero slammed the door shut on Vancouver in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn his team-high seventh save of the season.
The Dust Devils only had one hit in the first six innings of the game, but it was an explosive one. Dwanya Williams-Sutton blasted a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1. Tri-City and the Canadians would remain tied until the top of the eighth inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Tucupita Marcano smoked a ball that deflected off of Vancouver's third baseman Nick Podkul. Three runs would ultimately come in to score on the play, giving the Dust Devils a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night.
Right-hander Sam Keating will toe the rubber for Tri-City in the middle game of the three-game series on Wednesday. The Canadians will counter with right-hander Joey Murray. The team will return home on Friday to begin a six-game homestand. Friday's game against the Everett AquaSox will be Faith Night. It will also be a CO-Energy $1 Family Feast Night. Hot dogs, ice cream sandwiches, bags of potato chips and 12 ounce Coca-Cola products will be $1 all night long. Tickets are available by calling the Dust Devils' front office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
