Wild Pitch Leads to Walk-Off Loss

The Tri-City Dust Devils (4-6) fell in a nail-biter 4-3 to the Eugene Emeralds (6-4) on Sunday night at PK Park. Tri-City reliever Deacon Medders threw a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning that allowed Eugene's Fernando Kelli to score the game-winning run.
It was a tight game throughout the night, with the Dust Devils holding only two brief leads. Jason Pineda drove in two runs with his double in the top of the fifth inning, but Fernando Kelli countered with a two-run home run for the Emeralds to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Matthew Acosta extended his Northwest League-high hitting streak to nine games with a single that also came in the fifth inning. Tri-City's pitching staff continued to add to their league-leading strikeout tally. The Dust Devils struck out 13 Eugene batters in the loss. The team know has 130 strikeouts through ten games this season.
The four-game series comes to an end on Monday night. Tri-City will send right-hander Jason Blanchard to the mound in the series finale. The Emeralds will counter with counter with left-hander Chris Allen. The Dust Devils will return to Gesa Stadium on Friday, June 28 to begin a six-game homestand.
