Texas League President Tom Kayser announced today that Tulsa Drillers outfielder Alex Verdugo has been named the Texas League's Hitter of the Week. Verdugo received the honor for the period of games from July 11-17.
During that stretch, the 20-year-old hit safely in all five games that he played, going 8-18 (.444) with five extra-base hits, including two home runs. In the five games, Verdugo also totaled six runs batted in.
It is the fourth time this season that a Tulsa hitter has received the honor. Verdugo joins Andrew Toles and Willie Calhoun, who has received the award twice.
