The Tulsa Drillers opened up a three-game series against the San Antonio Missions on Friday night. The Drillers scored early and didn't look back, as they gave plenty of run support to a dominate outing by starter Mitchell White in a 6-2 win.
In the top of the first, a single and errant pick off attempt put Gavin Lux in position to score. Jacob Scavuzzo then knocked an RBI single for the game's first run. The next batter, first baseman Cael Brockmeyer, lined a home run to left to give the Drillers an early 3-0 lead.
The Drillers added onto their lead in the top of the second. They started the inning with a Keibert Ruiz single and a walk to Errol Robinson. Michel Baez would retire the next to batters, but the Drillers still capitalized as a walk to Drew Jackson loaded the bases. Scavuzzo then doubled, scoring all three to make it 6-0 Tulsa.
San Antonio didn't answer back until the fourth inning. Buddy Reed led off with a double and came around on a single by the next batter, Taylor Kohlwey, to cut the lead to 6-1. White would dial in to retire the Missions and limit the damage to one run.
The Missions only other run came in the bottom of the sixth when a two-out error by Lux scored Reed from second. But the batter Kyle Overstreet would then be thrown out trying to advance to second to end the inning and San Antonio's offense for the night.
White continued his recent success by throwing six quality innings, giving up only one earned run on four hits while striking out six Missions.
Tulsa relievers Jason Richman and Marshall Kasowskicombined for three hitless and scoreless innings out of the bullpen, sealing the 6-2 victory.
