Tulsa Drillers pitcher Christian Friedrich capped off a memorable few days by being named the Texas League's Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Friedrich won the award because of the performance he turned in on his 23rd birthday. On July 8, the lefthander struck out a season high 12 batters while allowing just 1 run in a 7-inning win over Corpus Christi.
Three days later, Friedrich retired the only batter he faced in the annual XM Radio Futures Game at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
His game against the Hooks was his second straight strong outing. In a combined 13 innings in the two games, he surrendered only 8 hits and 3 runs while striking out a total of 21 batters. The two starts also produced his first two wins of the year.
Friedrich was a first round selection by the Colorado Rockies in the 2008 June Draft.
