San Antonio Takes Series with 10-1 Win Over the Drillers

The Tulsa Drillers entered Thursday's series finale in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">San Antonio hoping for a win to claim a series victory against the Missions, who own the best record in the Texas League. Those hopes were quickly dashed as <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">San Antonio scored two first-inning runs and coasted to a 10-1 victory.
The Missions jumped on the Drillers early, scoring in each of the first three innings against starting pitcher Frank Duncan. In the bottom of the first, Josh Naylor doubled and Ty <st1:country-region w:st="on">France was struck by a pitch from <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Duncan. Both runners scored on a throwing error by third baseman Connor Joe to give the Missions a lead they would never surrender.
In the second, Michael Gettys singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Fernando Tatis Jr.
A bad-hop base hit set the stage for a three-run homer from River Stevens in the third inning that put the Drillers in a deeper hole as the Missions upped their lead to 6-0.
Reliever Shea Spitzbarth was the only <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Tulsa hurler to enjoy any extended success in the game. Spitzbarth allowed only one hit while holding <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">San Antonio scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings.
The offensive output from the Missions resumed in the sixth when Austin Allen hit a two-run homer off Andrew Istler. They added single runs in the seventh and eighth to reach double figures and extend their lead to 10-0.
The Drillers only run of the night came in the ninth inning when Drew Jackson doubled home Joe with two outs.
WHAT YOU MISSED
The win was the 30th of the season for the Missions who own the best record in the Texas League.

The loss for the Drillers dropped their record to 23-23.
With the loss, the Drillers have now gone six straight series without claiming a series victory. The last series win came against <st1:place w:st="on">Northwest Arkansas when the Drillers won four of five games from April 27-30.
The Drillers placed infielder Mike Ahmed on the Disabled List Thursday afternoon and activated Drew Jackson from the DL.
*Keibert Ruiz did not play in the game, keeping his hitting streak intact at 12 straight games.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Drillers will now head further south to <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Corpus Christi to begin a three-game series with the Hooks over the Memorial Day Weekend. The two teams will play Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Friday's series opener will begin at 7:05 p.m. at <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Corpus Christi's Whataburger Field. The starting pitchers are slated to be:

TUL    Tyler Pill (0-1, 13.50 ERA)
SAN    Cionel Perez (4-1, 1.87 ERA)
