The Tulsa Drillers have scored at least 12 runs in three out of their last four games entering Sunday night. After two big innings against the Arkansas Travelers, the Drillers had their fourth high scoring night in the last five games as they defeated the Travs 12-1.
The Drillers offense exploded in the bottom of the second for a big inning. Jacob Scavuzzo led the inning off by launching his 12th homer of the year into the Busch Terrace for the first Drillers run. A walk, a double by Drew Jackson and another walk loaded the bases. Cael Brockmeyer followed by clearing the bases with a double in the left-center gap to give Tulsa a 4-0 lead.
The inning did not stop there. After the Drillers conceded a pair of outs, Luke Raley plated Brockmeyer with an RBI single. Will Smith followed with another single to put two men on for Scavuzzo. Up for the second time in the inning, Scavuzzo extended the lead to 7-0 after crushing a bases-clearing double to the right-center gap.
Drillers starter Kyle Lobstein cruised through the first four innings, only allowing one base hit. The only run he gave up came in the top of the fifth when Dario Pizzano connected for a solo home run.
The Drillers got that run back in the bottom of the sixth. After Zach Reks doubled to start the inning, Brockmeyer brought Tulsa back to a seven-run lead by notching an RBI single.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Drillers put the game away. After two singles started the inning, Scavuzzo continued his big night by crushing his second homer of the game, this time the opposite way to right field. Three straight walks loaded the bases for the Drillers. Tyler Goeddel then made the score 12-1 with an RBI groundout.
Michael Johnson came in to pitch the eighth and ninth, setting down all six Travs he faced. The 12-1 Drillers victory was their fourth straight win.
WHAT YOU MISSED
Scavuzzo's big night extended his hitting-streak to a Drillers season-high 17 games. His six RBI were the most he has hit in a game all season.
Jackson's second inning double extended his hitting streak to ten games. He is one short of his season-high of 11 straight games from April 6-22.
Brockmeyer had a big night after notching three hits and knocking in four runs. Both were season-highs for the catcher.
Stetson Allie had his fifth straight scoreless appearance out of the bullpen. He has lowered his ERA from 9.00 to 3.00.
