Midland, TX- The Tulsa Drillers and Midland RockHounds opened up a four-game series on Monday night, both in second place in their respective divisions. Three Drillers errors led to three unearned runs, which the offense was unable to overcome in a 4-0 loss in west Texas. Dustin May got the start on the mound for Tulsa, and gave up only one earned run in his five innings.
The loss drops the Drillers to 8-9 and 4.5 games out of first place in the Texas League North Division.
WHAT YOU MISSED
In the top of the third, an error and a walk led to an RBI groundout by Luke Persico, giving Midland a 1-0 lead.
Midland added on in the top of the fourth. Mikey White led off the inning with a single to right and May followed with a wild pitch. White eventually scored when Kevin Merrell singled to center.
Midland rallied with two outs in the seventh. After recording two quick outs, Shea Spitzbarth got into trouble after hitting a batter and allowing a walk. Michael Boyle relieved Spitzbarth and allowed a run-scoring single, bringing the Midland lead to 3-0.
In the eighth, Nate Mondou extended the lead to 4-0 on a sacrifice fly.
Parker Dunshee recorded his first win of the season going seven innings with six strikeouts.
Christian Santana was the only Driller to have a multi-hit night.
